Our History

The Hillwood Baptist Church was organized August 21, 1947 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Haywood.  It was organized by six ministers;  Reverend S.E. Logan, Reverend I.N. Nolan, Reverend W.T. Watts, Reverend H.M. McCowen, Reverend R.S. Corbin, and Reverend A. Griffin, all of whom are deceased.  Assembled with these ministers were three other persons with letters from the New Zion Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the purpose of organizing this as a church, namely,  Wilbert Mosely his wife; Mary Lou Mosley and Odessa Griffin,  These letters were read and a motion was made that this organization be perfected upon these three. Reverened A. Griffin was presented as pastor.

Reverend Griffin resigned in 1948.  On October 4, 1948 Reverend Powell was called to pastor the church.  Reverend Powell resigned in 1949.  In February 1950, Reverend E. In March 1956, Reverend. O.B. Burrough was called to pastor. Under Pastor Burrough's leadership, the Lord called fourteen men into the ministry and several deacons.  Pastor Burrough retired from the position of pastor on June 8, 2008, after 52 years of service. On March 21, 2010 Hillwood called Reverend Larry D. Hooks, II to serve as our fifth senior pastor.

In April 2012 God appointed Rev. Raney to the Senior Pastorate at Hillwood Missionary Baptist Church in Spencer, Oklahoma. Were they are excited about the gift the Lord has given them in this dynamic man of God. Through his leadership, ministries have been birthed and membership has increased tremendously. More importantly lives are being transformed and disciples are being made.

By the grace of God under his leadership in eight years the church paid off its mortgage during a world pandemic and now thriving to go higher in ministry. In 2023 Aquiring another facility just blocks away from the church, launching a Community Outreach Center providing clothing, food, hygiene, and safety for the youth.

Pastor Raney always reminds Hillwood what God says in John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that you are my disciples,  if you have love one to another." Hillwood continues to be a growing church walking by faith, determined to Love, Live, and Lead by the Word of God!
